Junior Year

Where do I start? Do I begin with the Friday night football games? The trick or treating around on Halloween? Do I start with the Leadership Conference or skip to winning the 3A State Championship in Girls’ Basketball. I don’t know where to start so I’ll take it from the beginning.
Three months before the death of me, I wrote down as what I thought would be a great schedule of events. Filled with honors classes, art, and trying to squeeze in a few others here and there I wrote down my schedule. Quickly August began with the football season and ended my summer. August slowly moved to September and that’s when I thought my life would begin. Oh was I wrong? Yes, of course I was wrong. I for sure thought this job would finish me off. The phone calls to surveyors that seemed to take only 20 minute had aged me at least 5 years but that didn’t seem to put a damper on social life.
Halloween soon arrived and the party began. Dressed as a baby, yes, a baby, with diaper and all I went parading around, sucking on my bottle, through the neighborhood I went, collecting delicious sweets to rot away my teeth, with all my friends and enjoying the night. The fun came and went and November chilled into my life when the basketball season started.
Few girls tried out so we ran around with hope in our eyes to collect as many girls as possible to try out for the team. We ended up with 18 girls, everyone made it. As a team we struggled, starting the season off with two losses, one of which was against our rivals, the Carbon Dinos’. The conditioning, the bus trips, the games, the emotional effect the losses left, left me wondering when my life was about to start looking up. The team ended with a tie for 1st place in the region with the Delta Rabbits, and off to the play-offs we went.
Winning the Wasatch Wasps we paraded our way to the state championship at Utah State University. Ironically we defeated the Morgan Trojans and the Juab Wasps and headed to the championship game against the Carbon Dinos’, our rivals. We rode home from that game with the wonder of what our state champ rings would look like and celebrated.
The excitement didn’t end because, the following week was Prom. Setting up decorations and making the gym look fantastic for our junior fantasy of a prom, I stressed, my dress was by farm the poofiest and my partner was bound to step on it. The night finally arrived and every single Junior looked amazing, Colten didn’t step on my dress and he didn’t drop me on the dip. I wouldn’t trade that prom for anything.
At the beginning of Junior year, I wondered when my life would begin but what I didn’t realize was that it had and I was living it.
